iPhone Kids Case
When my six-year-old daughter started showing an interest in photography, I dedicated quite a bit of time to searching for a children's camera that could capture photos with good enough quality to preserve them. The solution came in the form of a DIY project. By repurposing an old iPhone we already owned, I designed a custom case to house it. This not only provided protection for the phone but also improved its ergonomics for her small hands and added a charming vintage vignette effect to her photos.
Retractable Dust Collection
After rebuilding an industrial CNC router in my garage, I faced the task of setting up effective dust collection. Given the machine's 4' x 8' bed, providing ample length for the dust collection hose presented a challenge. To address this, I devised a two-part locking ring system that can be positioned anywhere along the hose. This locking ring is then connected to a weight-set retractable tool reel. This innovative solution ensures proper support for the hose at any position during the machining process.
Center Punch
I created this small punch when I had a project that demanded numerous hand-plotted points to be center punched and drilled. The body is hand-turned from stainless steel, featuring a soft rubber base. The polished acrylic rod is center-marked and serves as a light pipe to illuminate the hole's bottom, aiding in locating the marks. Once positioned, you can easily switch it out for the hardened punch.
PowerWheels Upgrade
Things can always be improved. The kids' power wheels required an upgrade. The plastic wheels lacked traction for PNW weather. I waterjet some adapters and installed steel wheels with rubber tires. I rewired the electrical system and added a drill battery port for user-friendly power swap.
